After losing sight in 1983, John Hull began keeping an audio diary, a unique testimony of loss, rebirth and renewal, excavating the interior world of blindness. Following on from the Emmy Award-winning short film of the same name, Notes on Blindness is an ambitious and groundbreaking work, both affecting and innovative.

Guler, a small principality near Kangra, was an artistic and cultural wellspring since it's accidental inception in the 15th century. Many greats like painters Pandit Seu, his sons Manaku, Nainsukh, and the poet Brajraj were born here. Today the whole system of patronage under which lofty endeavours were possible even in financially austere conditions is gone. And tragically even the physical landscape is submerged under a dam. The film seeks out some traces of the submerged past, through the memories of those left behind, a condensation of a bygone civilization.

A Study of Light over Water. The film is an abstract representation of the naturalistic reflection of light on Lake Tune and Canal Saint-Martin.

When a sudden plague of blindness devastates a city, a small group of the afflicted band together to triumphantly overcome the horrific conditions of their imposed quarantine.

A blind Asian-American woman lives with her son and daughter-in-law. The two women barely tolerate one another and the son, a doctor simply turns himself off to avoid any confrontation with either. Into this environment, an armed intruder breaks in. He is eventually revealed to be an old family friend who was sent to prison for murdering his father, but he insists that the older woman's husband, now deceased, was the actual murderer. Slowly, all the characters have to explore past hidden secrets about themselves.

A film about mortality. We asked friends and family about their relationship with death, a topic we had not openly discussed with them before. A collection of voice notes are woven together with Super 8 footage. Filmed over the course of one month during winter in Berlin.

Friends from the Film School in Lodz and the TOR Film Group, including Wojciech Marczewski and Agnieszka Holland, discuss his legendary status as a scandalmonger and thinker. His wives, Barbara Lisowska and Magdalena Jaworska, share intimate details of his life. Students Agnieszka Smoczynska and Adrian Panek speak respectfully of him. Zebrowski’s biography is complemented by excerpts from his school works and original films, with scenes featuring him in Zanussi’s films like “The Illumination.” Directed by Maria Zmarz-Koczanowicz, the documentary captures a reflective and nostalgic atmosphere, reflecting Zebrowski’s mature life and sense of lost opportunities.

A poetic journey of rediscovery and return. Routing us through shifting landscapes and waterways, the narrative reflections of a seeker are mystically guided by Oshun, the venerated orisha of water and destiny.
